Today – June 30th was Social Media Day. I’m using the past tense on purpose, because this post is going up with a reason. As the day winds to a close, I wanted to see what all of us did with social media today.
It’s a day to celebrate the changes in media that have empowered us to stay connected to information in real time, the tools that have enabled us to communicate from miles apart, and the platforms that have given a voice to the voiceless and victims of protest injustice. It’s a revolution worth celebrating. Today, we celebrate Social Media Day and we hope you’ll join us.
There are many days that come and go by – many that are celebrated and forgotten. What category did Social Media Day fall into for you?
And more importantly – was there anything specific in your social media interactions that made today memorable?
Although I had lofty plans of showing up at a meetup, I couldn’t. I ended up running a very tight calendar – and the fact that my lunch today could easily be mistaken for early dinner says it all. But I kind of compensated for that by joining some of the live streams.
I also spent time hanging around on Twitter – in my favorite dimension – taking my own insights about social media to the next level. Literally, every day and in every way, I am getting better and better with social media!
At the end of the day, social media has the potential to combine centuries worth of collective human intelligence and serve it in a teacup. It lives up to this promise every day for me – and that’s what keeps me coming back to it every day.
How about you?
What is that one thing that will make you come back to your primary social media channel – Twitter, or Facebook, or LinkedIn – or whatever else it is and why?
